Our Family-Run Nursery
Trees Online supplies plants to homeowners across Eastern Canada, primarily native to northeastern North America, including maples, willows, pines, spruces, and larches. The nursery offers a wide selection of young trees and shrubs grown in Quebec for 1 to 2 years, propagated mainly from seed in greenhouses and nursery beds.
Locally grown plants from Quebec, delivered directly from our nursery to your garden across Eastern Canada.
Why Trees Online
At Trees Online, our mission is to encourage the widespread integration of trees and shrubs into landscape design. We are committed to promoting the use of native species from Quebec and Eastern Canada to support healthy ecosystems, local flora, and wildlife.
We offer a wide selection of quality plants—including trees, shrubs, conifers, deciduous species and perennials—at accessible prices, helping to improve our environment collectively, one plant at a time.
Trees Online History
Trees Online is a division of Pépinière Vert Forêt, located in southern Quebec. The nursery has been in operation for over 30 years, with three successive generations of owners (non-related) carrying its legacy forward to the present day.
Pépinière Vert Forêt primarily serves a commercial clientele, including garden centres, landscapers, horticultural producers, municipalities, and non-profit organizations. In 2008, the idea emerged to make the nursery’s unique plant selection accessible to homeowners. This led to the launch of the first French-language website, Arbres en ligne, and marked the beginning of the online venture.
Today, Trees Online represents the evolution of Arbres en ligne for English-speaking customers across Eastern Canada.
In its early years, the service was limited to Quebec, with only a few dozen orders shipped annually. Today, following steady growth, several hundred carefully selected and packaged plants leave our nursery each year to enrich landscapes across Eastern Canada.
Trees Online today
Since 2019, the nursery has been operated by Audrey Rondeau and Marc-Olivier Durand, partners in both life and business. Together, they oversee the production of over 1.5 million seedlings annually.
Plant propagation takes place within a 45,000-square-foot greenhouse complex, as well as across nearly five hectares of cultivated nursery beds. Most plants are grown from seed to promote strong genetic diversity across production batches.
The nursery offers close to 150 different varieties of trees and shrubs, along with a selection of perennials and woodland plants. The team, made up of 14 to 16 people, includes long-time collaborators, family members, and seasonal international workers.
Our plants, trees and shrubs
The plants, trees, and shrubs we offer are young, typically 1 to 2 years old. Their size varies by species and age, ranging from approximately 10 cm to up to 60 cm (2 ft) at the time of sale. They are grown in multi-cell propagation trays, where each plant develops a well-rooted plug within a controlled growing medium. This production method supports healthy root development and successful establishment after planting.
Most of our plants are native to northeastern North America, originating from forest ecosystems in Quebec and Eastern Canada. These species are highly hardy, well adapted to cold climates, and generally show good resistance to common pests and diseases. With proper site selection—considering soil type, light exposure, pH, and moisture—most species establish easily and perform reliably in a wide range of landscape conditions.
